Artist VS Craftman

A Brief History of a Distinction, 2013

This work was created during my residency in Ouagadougou and published on the occasion of the Carrefour des Arts Plastiques. As part of this event, I was invited to present a lecture on the distinctions between artists and artisans and to put these relationships into perspective within the context of the local art scene.

In the course of this reflection, which was notably informed by my position as a commissioner (the works I presented at the Institut Français were partly produced by artisans), I chose to follow the same approach for the creation of this publication. I conceived and structured this essay, delegating its writing to a 'ghostwriter,' Julien Bordier, holder of a PhD in sociology.
